Another Post About My Crappy Immune System

I hate the fact that I am only able to post right now because I'm laid up on the couch sick. (Otherwise I'd probably be studying, reading, writing a paper, folding laundry, mopping the floor, or some other mundane domestic task). Actually, I'd rather be doing any of those things than sitting here on the couch, advil and water in hand, typing yet another post about how inept my immune system is. I woke up on Thursday morning with a stiff neck, which was further exacerbated by a run-in with a tree branch in which the branch pulled a clothesline move on me, snapping my neck back and bringing tears of pain to my eyes. And then yesterday, waves of nausea came. And a headache. Luckily, the headache and tummy problems have subsided, leaving me with a stiff and wore neck/back/shoulder. (After spending a few minutes on WebMD this morning, I have determined that I have either influenza, bacterial or spiral meningitis, a pulled muscle, or any combination of the aforementioned. I have come to the conclusion that WebMD is not your friend. Especially if you are a borderline hypochondriac to begin with.)

So I decided to pull myself up by the bootstraps this morning to go run some errands with Pat. Luckily, I'm feeling a little better. And I have managed to convince myself that what I have is probably not meningitis, but just a tweaked neck and some of sort of coincidental co-occurring stomach bug. Send me all your healthy vibes, as this coming week marks my busiest week of the semester (aside from finals week in May).

And because I have nothing witty to say, I will end with that.

Til next time,

Ran,
I feel your pain and am continuously plagued with a crappy immune system. As of now I sit with cervical torticillos and a soar throat. I have one word for you. Chiropractors. They are miracle workers. I was a huge skeptic, but they are the only ones who have been able to get rid of my stomach aches. Although i am a ways from feeling good, I do feel like things are going in the right direction...finally. If you want more info on their philosophy or how they work call me or visit this site. mitchellwellness.net Some chiropractors crack your back and only treat the acute cause of pain. In these cases it will usually relapse and land you back where you started. But if you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Some time with these guys is promising. They work on a lot of problems that you have. Check it out.

That's what I keep hearing, thanks for the advice. I, too, am skeptical about chiropractors, just because I was told by the orthopedic surgeon (and spinal specialist) who worked on my shoulder surgery that chiropractors are basically the devil. My physical therapist said the same thing. He said they often times cause more problems than they fix. With my history of being rear-ended (twice) and my shoulder surgery, I have to say, I'm not in a rush to run out to a chiropractor. But it's worth a shot, I suppose. I think I'm going to try out acupuncture first, maybe try and talk Pat into getting a new tempurpedic bed (haha, we'll see how well that goes over), and then I'll look into the chiropractor thing. Thanks again for the advice, Rinn. :)

an after thought...thought I should clarify. cervical torticollis is a disc in my neck that is folded over on itself.

After posting the previous I realized you had posted a comment. Costco has the same sort of material bed as Tempurpedic does for a lot less. I researched them...good quality. As for the chiropractors there are two types the ones that crack your backs and the ones that use an adjuster. The back crackers still make me nervous. The adjusters are safe. I have heard a lot from the medical field as well and think the hitch between the two has to do with the chiros approach being more holistic and natural where as the others are sergeons and medical. Their philosopies clash. More and more medical are starting to refer people to chiropractors though. Check out that website and read about it before if you end up trying them out. I think it will put your mind at ease. Acupuncture sounds like a good thing to try too. Let me know how it goes!

Skip the Chiropractor and go to a Certified Clinical Massage Therapist. I recently had a run in with not one BUT TWO trees on the ski hill. Hit my head (cracked my helmet) on one tree and hit my lower back on the other causing lots of bruising. My body was stiff from head to toe, couldn't move my head, couldn't move my arms very much. Happy to report I had no broken bones but after $40 and 30 minutes with the clinical massage therapist I was back on my feet feeling 99% better. Please note, the massage from a clinical massage therapist is FAR FROM a massage with cucumbers on your eyes. Be prepared to experience ENORMOUS amounts of pain for 30 minutes. Highly recommend it... best $40 I could have spent on my back/neck and best $160 I could have spent on my ski helmet.

Thank you both for your advice! My neck is finally starting to feel a bit better. Just stiff now, not so much sore. I'll keep these ideas in mind for next time.
